Volunteer with MYS

MYS succeeds because of the time and talent provided by our member volunters. Thank you for your regular and faithful participation; we truly could not succeed without your help.

The following descriptions will assist you in deciding how to help this season. Please review these volunteer opportunities and choose those which best suit your interests and skills.

As a way of expressing our appreciation, we offer commplimentary tickets (2) for every four times you volunteer with MYS.

HALL MONITOR

One of the most important and needed volunteer opportunities. Being a Hall Monitor means that you are simply a presence in the Beaumont Middle School halls to provide safety and keep an eye on things. For your child's protection, we maintain a closed campus during rehearsals at Beaumont; therefore, all non-MYS participants are kindly excused from the building. Parents, friends and relatives of MYS students may obtain a MYS badge for access to the campus.

Examples of those who might need a reminder of our policy would be skateboarders, sports players and the occasional Beaumont student trying to gain access to their locker. Three shifts ar available: 10:00-12:00, 12:00-1:30, and 1:30-3:30. It is a great way to become involved, get to know the musicians and meet other parents.

PIZZA SERVER

A fun way to earn complimentary tickets for concerts throughout the season is to help with pizza sales. Each Saturday, MYS sells Pizzicato pizza, apple juice and bottled water. Two shifts are available: 11:00-12:30 and 12:15-1:45. When Shakespeare said music is "the food of life," he forgot to mention that pizza is the food of musicians!

If you wish to sign up for either of these positions, you can do so on Saturdays at Beaumont. Just look for our Volunteer Coordinator, Margaret Gunther, who will welcome you aboard and help you with scheduling. These spots fill quickly, but there are plenty of other volunteer opportunities to consider.

Here are other important volunteer positions that MYS regularly seeks to fill:

• Orchestra or Band Manager: Managers are responsible for taking attendance and being an information link via email, between MYS and the students.
• Assistant to the Orchestra or Band Manager
• Music Librarian: The librarian disburses and collects music for a band or orchestra throught the year.
• Chair Setup/Put Away
• Theory Teacher (theory experience required)
• Tuxedo Fitting Assistant (no experience necessary)
• Photography
• Poster Distibution
• Publicity
• Backstage Concert Help
• Transport Percussion to Concerts
• Percussion Coordinator/Assistant
• Social Events (Viennese Ball, MYS Picnic...)
• Chaperone for School Tour Concerts
• Newsletter Assembly and Mailing
• Fundraiser Sales
• Website Maintenance/Desktop Publishing
• Computer Networking
• Marketing
